COVID-19: Update

Thank you so much for your continued patience as we navigate the opening of the GRC boathouse. We are excited to inform members that the boathouse will be open as of June 3rd, 12:01 am. Outlined in this email will be an update from Row Ontario, GRC Covid protocols, and next steps.

Row Ontario Update

Under the current Regulations, Boating Clubs are permitted to be open in Ontario. In accordance with the province’s and Row Ontario’s regulations only singles are permitted at this time. Doubles are only permitted for household members, direct caregivers, or an individual who lives alone may join one household group. Organized public events are limited to 5 people therefore, it is critical that while at the boathouse members remain physically distanced (2m apart) and do not congregate in the parking lot or on the docks. At this time, Learn to Row and other structured programs are not permitted. The rules allow recreational boating with a safety boat. There will be future announcements about the Regulations of the province’s reopening steps and their impacts on rowing in Ontario.

GRC Covid-19 Protocols

To be permitted to row, members must complete the GRC Orientation VideoRCA Safety Video, and the Covid-19 Code of Conduct.

Many of the safety protocols will be familiar to members, as they are similar to last year. There will be staggard start times and members must sign up via google docs. Sessions will be led by ‘Covid Captains’, and members will be able to sign up for sessions once they have completed the required documentation. This year an orientation video will be provided to club members. For our new members, in-person orientation will still be available. For in-person orientation, contact should be made with your program lead. When coming to the boathouse the aim is to arrive and leave on time to ensure we are able to maintain 2m of physical distancing between members. Cleaning supplies will be available to wash boats, oars, and other equipment after each row. Minor changes this year, are that according to current regulations docks will not need to be sprayed, and there will be a portable toilet available. The portable toilet will be for GRC members only, locked when not in use, and will require cleaning when entering and leaving.

A thank you to our Covid Leads Jane McKinnon Wilson and Michele Richardson. A thank you also goes out to the GRC Covid Committee for their work on putting together policies to ensure our members are safe.

We will be sure to update members with more details and updates as they become available. Your continued patience, support, and enthusiasm to return to rowing are greatly appreciated.
