November Newsletter

Dear GRC Members,

Here is a look back at all the exciting things that happened this month…

Boathouse Closing

A big thank you to all those who were able to come out for the boathouse closing.  Many hands made quick work of the task list. In addition,  thank you to the crew that took the docks out the week before.

Stephen Harris – National Champion

A huge congratulations to GRC member Stephen Harris who had an incredible performance at NRCs held November 11th – 13th, at Elk Lake in Victoria, BC. Stephen came first in Saturday’s time trials and continued his success into Sunday, earning himself the Sr. and U23 lwt National Champion title.

The Yellow Club Fluid Gets Named

After nearly a year of being affectionately called the Yellow Club Fluid, the yellow club fluid is proudly named the Mark Henry. Mark Henry is a University of Guelph Alumni, rowed for Canada on Men’s National Team, and has supported GRC immensely over the years. Due to his incredible contributions to the club and rowing accomplishments, it seemed only fitting Mark Henry get the naming rights to yellow club fluid. The Mark Henry was christened at the Canadian University Rowing Championships by Mark Henry himself, and Dave Leger. Hayley Chase then took it out for a practice row down the International Flatwater Centre course before competing in the Women’s 1x the following Saturday and Sunday.

Gryphon Rowing

To cap off the season the CURCs team made their way back to International Flatwater Centre in Welland ON. This two-day regatta had Time Trials take place on Saturday and finals on Sunday. This was an excellent opportunity for Gryphons to race against schools from across the country and gain race experience. All crews did very well and should be proud of what they accomplished.

Gryphon Rowing Banquet

The Annual Gryphon Rowing Banquet will once again be hosted in person. To celebrate being back together, the event will be hosted in Peter Clark Hall in the heart of the University of Guelph Campus on Saturday, January, 29th. There will be a silent auction again this year where the bidding will be available online to allow for those joining us virtually to participate. If you have any questions, are interested in attending or donating please do not hesitate to reach out via Gryphon Rowing social media (@gryphonrowing) or contact Abbegayle Smith via email:

“Glory is in the team not the individual.”
