Dear GRC Members,
Well, another season of rowing has officially begun! Here is what’s happening at GRC this month:
Warm Water Rules
The latest temperature of Guelph Lake is above 15 degrees Celsius which means we are now in warm water rules! Please note that the temperature of the middle of the lake is likely still quite cold, so be careful and take safety precautions. In addition, for early morning rowers the air temperature is still chilly and below 5 degrees Celsius some mornings so please dress appropriately. Lastly, be sure to bring enough PDFs for all rowers in the crew, a fully stocked safety kit, and sign-in and out of the logbook. Safety is a priority at the GRC and should be at the forefront of each rowing outing.
Spring Cleaning
What started out as a humble little gardening group has grown into a major workforce!
It seems like mountains have been moved…old stumps are gone, new gardens installed front & back using saved & donated plants, stone edging around the gardens has been installed, doors & the sign-out cubby have been painted, new signage in cubby, plans for improved signage are in the works (ie. logos on doors, new larger map etc), goose gates are up on all docks including our new dock, old dock dismantled and disposed of.
Enjoy the new fresh look & please help the gardens to flourish – when you are finished with your boat cleaning water, please carefully water the plants with it! Attached is Kris’ collage of pictures from our work parties & a big thank you to all who helped: Joanne, Marianne, Nancy, Henry, Heather, Deanna, Csaba, David, Bobby, Michele, Rita, Pat, Reona, Kris & Peggy
Gryphon Rowing Alumni Run
Gryphon Rowing is hosting its 2nd annual Alumni, Friends & Family Run on Saturday, May 27th later this month. We are sharing the registration link with you to invite club participation in the event this year & to hopefully build some community around the GRC boathouse on the 27th!
Please consider joining us if you are available to walk or run the 4k Fun Run or 9k Dambuster Classic, and invite your friends around the club.
Event organizer and running enthusiast Coach Ashley has once again designed some limited edition rowing socks that will be available only in the race day kit (photo attached). All funds raised from this event support our athletes to travel to the Canadian University Rowing Championships which will be in Burnaby, BC, later this year.
Here is the event info and registration link with photos from last year’s event.
New this year is an in-person 200m kids’ run to encourage community and club members to bring their families for a fun morning to connect with other athletes, and coaches.
